I have SystemWorks 2000 on the computer and I have one quarantined item in NAV. When I try to get information about the virus or re-scan it I get an error requesting me to reinstall NAV.

Is there any way I can avoid uninstalling and reinstalling SystemWorks? I checked and I do not have Custom Install on the CD so that I could just reinstall NAV on top of what I already have.

the program seems to be working and accepts updates and scans, etc.
I am not even sure if I do have a virus in the quarantine or not.

Ann --I cannot say this is because your AntiVirus subscription has run out, but that may be the reason. You say you can scan OK, but your present virus definitions may be way out of date unless you are still able to update manually through
    http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/download/pages/US-N95.html
    No guarantees. See below.
You may be able to get free info on the virus by searching at www.google.com.
And in times past you could get info from Norton at their support page.
    http://www.symantec.com/techsupp/

But Norton has been making it difficult lately for people who do not renew subscriptions (or have older versions of their software) to get info.
Most of your SystemWorks may still work, but I suspect your AntiVirus is not very functional, as mentioned above

Not sure I understand that. If the virus is quarantined, you are protected from it. You can delete it from the Quarantine file.

    Ann,

I agree with Welshjim. If the virus is in quaratine, just delete. I would also go out and buy an updated version of SystemWorks. Staples has them on sale right now. With 2 mail-in rebates, the program is free for previous owners. This would be perfect for you. I actually just got back from Staples with my "free" Norton AntiVirus program. If you don't have a store close by, try ordering online.

    1. My subscription is OK
    2. I d/l manually and definitions are up-to-date.
    3. Norton flashed message while receiving e-mail about a virus and I quickly hit the quarantine button before I thought to write down anything about virus name, etc.
As this is the first time I have had this happen in 10 years, I am a newbie when it comes to viruses. How do I access the quarantined file to delete it?

Ann--I do not have NAV (or NSW) 2000, but in NAV 2004 you open the NAV window and click on Reports. One of the options is Quarantined Items. You click on that. That should offer you a Delete button (perhaps by highlighting the virus entry and then clicking Action|Delete).
The purpose of having Quarantine is let you see if isolating the virus causes problems in the next few days or weeks of operation. If not you then can safely delete. If problems, you then can restore the virus (not a good idea) or figure out a work around. Having the virus in Quarantine means it is isolated from your hard drive--almost as good as deletion.
It sounds like you able to get recent virus definitions. If so, you probably are reasonably well protected. The recent NAV engine (program) is somewhat different and probably a little more efficient, but the virus definitions are the real key to protection. And it seems your only problem is not being able to get info from Norton about the virus. I have already made suggestions how to work around that.
