This site provides the information needed:

    http://www.internetnews.com/dev-news/print.php/3353841

It seems Netdriver Monitor is a patch for a security hole found in Norton Internet Firewall 2002, 2003, and 2004. It is necessary and should not be "turned off ".

Appreciate the replies. Do not use the Norton firewall. Therefore should I delete the file(Patch)? Thanks.

Are you using a different one? Is Norton firewall installed? Strange that you would get the patch if it's not. You wouldn't have to delete it at any rate. Just uncheck it in msconfig.

It is not only the Firewall. Are you using any of these:

The vulnerabilities, first discovered by researchers at eEye Digital Security, affect both enterprise and consumer Norton users. Affected products include the Symantec Client Firewall 5.01 and 5.1.1; the Symantec Client Security 1.0, 1.1, 2.0 (SCF 7.1); the Norton Internet Security and Professional 2002, 2003, 2004; Norton Personal Firewall 2002, 2003, 2004; and the Norton AntiSpam 2004.

Appreciate all the concern and replies.

Notwithstanding the fact I am using Norton Anti Virus 2000 the Symantec Security Drivers Install Monitor is considered of no value. Hopefully my thinking is not flawed? Thanks.

    Hello Lis,

You got it. Especially running 2000.

A way to check your AV:

    http://www.rexswain.com/eicar.html

    From the site:

*Once you have downloaded these files, you might also want to e-mail them to yourself -- then you can see if your anti-virus software detects viruses in incoming e-mail attachments.*

Strange indeed - I don't know why Symantec didn't descriminate, no clue in all the many threads on security sites this caused. I can speculate, this was in response to a security hole in the firewalls, and it was rushed, because Symantec patched the patch - not unheard of :)

    Regards - Charles

    Hi Lis,

Odly enough, NJ is more famous for Tony Saprano :)

I do find myself in conversions when I'm out of state with people that want to know:

Do those people really talk like that? Yes.

Do Bergen County, across from Manhattan - Tony's house, and Hudson County, across from Staten Island and the Statue of Liberty - Tony's "business ", really look like that? Yes

    Regards - Charles

    Hi Lis,

I've "stumbled" on the explanation for SNDmon.exe

This is on XP - don't know what it does on a 9X OS and neither do I know how it shows up for NAV2000 or 2001. Doesn't change anything for me beause I manually check for updates.

Looked in Task Schedular - found: \Program files\Symantec\LiveUpdate\NDETECT.EXE" - was disabled because I stopped the startup.

All that time and aggravation spent in trying to find out what Symantec was up to, and it turns out to be updating the LiveUpdate to give the older version(s) - how about NAV2003? - the ability to schedule LU.

What started this was this thread http://www.windowsbbs.com/showthread.php?t=31618

    Regards - Charles
