    Hi All,

I have quite an interesting one here in that none of my CD/DVD drives are showing up under My Computer.
I have tracked back in System restore but that didn't fix it.
I have gone into BIOS and they all show up there.
When I go into Device Manager they show with that little Yellow mark.
Whilst in Device Manager I have uninstalled each of them but upon bootup they again show up with their little yellow mark.
I have placed some disks in these drives hoping that they would auto start but that hasn't worked and as they are not showing up I have no way of any options control.
Other than unplugging them and starting again what other options do you think I have???

    PeteC,

    Thanks for your prompt response.
Regrettably that tool did NOT do the trick.
I have also removed and replaced the power cable to each drive as well as doing the same with the EIDE cables

As the drives are shown in the BIOS the chances are that the connections to the motherboard are OK, but I would go into the case and unplug and plug in again both the ribbon cable - at each end and the power supply.

The fact that uninstalling and reinstalling through Device Manager fails to resolve the problem suggests that the cause lies a little deeper. I would be inclined to go into Device Manager and remove/uninstall the Secondary IDE controller and reboot.

It would also be useful to check out this MS KB article even though you have not just installed XP ....

CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive appears to be missing after you install Windows XP

    PeteC,

Come closer, so I can kiss you.

It never ceases to amaze how quickly you are able to research solutions to problems.
I figured it must have been a Registry issue as all Hardware operations seemed to be functioning.

Your last link provided the answer.
    1. Click Start, and then click Run.
    2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.
    3. Locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/System/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class/{4d36e965-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}
    4. On the File menu, click Export.
    5. In the File name box, type savedkey, and then click Save.
    6. Click the REG_MULTI_SZ data type UpperFilters, and then click Delete on the Edit menu. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.

Note If this data type is missing, go to Method 2.
    7. Click the REG_MULTI_SZ data type LowerFilters, and then click Delete on the Edit menu. When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
    8. Quit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.
