I've duly disabled all the programs I don't want to start in Startup. When I re-boot I see that they don't start anymore.

However, when I go to Task Manager>Processes I see that there are entries there for some of the programs I have disabled and which no longer start on boot-up. For example, SymSnapService.exe is a program needed by the System recovery service used by Norton Ghost and Backup Exec. I don't use Ghost except on demand which is why I disabled it on startup.

So, since Ghost no longer loads on startup (neither does TomTomHOMEService or GoogleUpdateService) why am I seeing them in the Task Manager processes?

    Thank you. :)

Hi Lugwalker. Chances are you disabled the startup executable files from launching on Startup but you did not set the services that were used by the programs to manual. I would go into Services and set to manual any services that were installed by other programs that you don't want running on startup in order to prevent those services from starting up with your machine.

Also check the Task Scheduler in the Control Panel and remove any tasks that you don't want to run automatically.

Thanks, Evan. I've done as you suggested and that has resolved the issue. Thank you. :)

Here's the list of processes now running. If you see anything obviously not needing to be on the list let me know what you think. Thanks again. ;)

You can disable the ati2evxx.exe processes. They are not needed. Open the Services window and locate the ATI Services. Right click on them and set them to disabled. There may be one or two services depending on what version of Catalyst Control Center that you have installed.

If you don't use Windows Messenger then you can uninstall it or remove the program from Startup. MSMSGS is the UI for Windows Messenger.

I am not sure what robotaskbaricon.exe is. Do you use that program? Do you know what the K9.exe program is?

Other than those items your number of processes looks pretty normal.

robotaskbaricon.exe refers to my password manager Roboform.

K9.exe refers to my email filtering application.

    Thanks again. ;)
