Non Functioning USB Ports

I have a Dell Dimension 4400 that came with 4 USB ports, 2 on the back of the case and 2 just under a hinged door below the power switch. The two in the rear are functioning fine but when I plug my new digital camera into the front ones it's not recognized. Nothing seems to work on the two in front. I plug the camera into the rear ports and it works fine. Any idea what's going on here and how I can solve the problem? Thanks for any help.

I haven't been to my Dell's BIOS, so I'm not positive on this. Have you checked the BIOS to see if all the ports are enabled?

You might also want to check your wiring and make sure that the usb wires going to the font or side ports are actually connected to the uSB pinouts on your motherboard.

 

Thanks for the help. Checked the BIOS and there is nothing related to USB ports that I can find. On to the hardware connections next.
