I have no windows theme sounds- I only hear a continuous vibrating synthesizer type of sound-I have a Cobra850 sound card from AOpen installed-- I removed all elements of sound in my Device manager and reinstalled teh driver from teh Cobra supplied CD- after rebooting I had sound on one of my games- rebooted to check and again had teh vibrating sound from windows and NO sound on the game- on occasion I recieve a pop-up saying sound not available because that is in use by another(unspecified) program-thinking it may be a conflict between QuickTime and Win Media Player I deleted one of Quick Time folder-but it seems not alll values of QuickTime- some are inserted in reg KEYS-any help comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

The first thing I'd try is downloading and installing the latest drivers. The drivers available for download on AOpen's site were released on July 30, 2003. If you bought the card before that date, the drivers you have on CD are not the latest.

Hmmm...when I clicked on a download link on that page (I just chose one at random since there are apparently several different Cobra850 cards), I got a separate little window with a button "Download from FTP sites!" and the file listed is an .exe file.

When I clicked on the button, it gave me a list of sites to download from and since I'm in the U.S., I chose that one. It was going to download an exe file, alright. I canceled since I don't have a Cobra card.

Did you jump through all those hoops to get the drivers downloaded?

Ya' got me on that one. It should have been an exe file and, lacking any directions from AOpen on using it, I assumed opening it once downloaded would install the drivers.

You might try downloading it again. If you were using a download manager, bypass it since they can sometimes corrupt a driver download.
