    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

Basic question - when you boot the computer is there any evidence that the computer boots - hard drive activity, lights flashing on the optical drive, etc.

Do you see the POST screen and if so is the hard drive detected?

If you see the POST screen and nothing past that point I would check out the hard drive with the drive manufacturer;s diagnostic software....

    Disk Diagnostic Software ....

    ExcelStore

    Hitachi/IBM

    Samsung

    Seagate, Maxtor, Quantum

    Western Digital

Under normal circumstances when you change the graphics card you need to load the graphics drivers, but you should still get a VGA output and an image on the screen.

When you change the motherboard you must load the chipset drivers and make a repair install of Windows so that the new hardware is recognised.

How to replace the motherboard on a computer that is running Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, or Windows 2000

    Hi PeteC,
I signed up to some american Ebook and it tells me to make my first Boot with only the power supply and videocard???

I bought the motherboard off a friends working computer and it came with its hard drive and Ram etc.

Shouldnt I get something on the screen??
    Cheers Rodney.

Would be helpful if you would answer this question.

At the very least you should see the POST screen - this comes from the BIOS.
