    just got a compaq 5002us with amd duron 800mhz (uwave/fic az31 motherboard, 40mb hard-drive - unsure whats on it).

starts up, sounds like hd is booting, but NO VIDEO will display (have tried 2 different monitors, 2 agp video cards and 2 pci video cards in all slots). have tried all ram slots with 2 different 64mb dimms (sdram).

tried 2 different monitors 1 very old, one new. cleared cmos (from manual inst.), replaced the battery, checked all connections.

anything else to try next ? (thanks for any real help, but it's ok to be brutal....)

It sounds like you already tried everything that anyone would suggest to do.

Are you sure that the MoBo doesn't have integrated video?

Ditto on Hex comments - sure sounds like video or memory based on what you said. If you can get into the bios, back off your video settings and memory speed to see if you can get anything to come up. You can also increase your voltage (go slow here). You may even want to clear CMOS and set bios for setup defaults if nothing else works.

    ;)

I worked on a computer about 3 weeks ago that would display nothing, I tried all the usual but the only thing that would fix it was removing the internal modem (I thought it was strange too). Try stipping down the computer to the bare neccessities and if it works then add hardware a piece at a time.

    Hope this helps you.

thanks for all the advice. no integrated video tho', and i can't get into bios without video 1st, and the removal of the internal modem didn't do it either. rats. even hooked up powered speakers(required for the mobo integrated audio) to see if i could at least get some kind of beep/beeps to tell me what's up. no go.

i give. will try new mobo next. thanks anyways.

Sorry Kevin, perhaps I should have been a bit clearer.

Strip your computer down to just the mother board, gfx card, processor and ram, and see if it will display any thing. If it doesn't, then try to replace all the components one at a time to find your problem e.g. try a different cpu that you know works, then gfx card, then ram. The problem you've described can be narrowed down to these compnents if you follow these steps.

    Hope this helps this time.
