I have just bought a new computer running XP and there appears to be no listing in the start menu / all programs for system tools and also accessories and i am sure that they were there before is it possible that i have hidden them by mistake the programs are on the drive as you can access them by doing a search if you know the program name
I have no install disk just one of those horrible restore disks which i do not want to use as it means i will have to install everything again.

    many thanks for any help

Do a Search of Accessories right click on it go to properties check to see if you selected the Hidden box. If you did, clear it, click apply and then OK. Do the same with System Tools. If that doesn't work there is always System Restore.

    Control Panel> Taskbar & Start Menu> Start Menu> Customize> Advanced tab

Tick the boxes how you want the items to display.

Have a look in the program groups that are near where accessories used to be. System tools is in the accessories folder and it's possible you accidently dragged it into a nearby folder. I suppose it should show up when you do a search for it but if you're using XP's search, it wouldn't surprise me if it didn't even if it was there.
