    Hi,

I added a new sound card CMI8738 PCI Audio Device to my Windows 98 SE. It run well. But now there is no sound anymore. The system has an onboard sound card, i.e. Realtec AC’97 and I disable it in the BIOS before insyalling the new sound card.

I check the Device Manager, everything is OK. The Mixer is also OK. Volume Control OK. There is no Mute. But I’m still can not hear anything.

The Mobo is Intel D845EPI. The system has dual boot, i.e. Windows 98 SE on first hard disk (drive C) and Windows XP on the second hard disk (drive D). There is no problem with the sound card in Windows XP. I can hear sound in Windows XP. So, I guess the problem is not in the speaker.

Any guidance how to solve the no sound problem in Windows 98 SE?

    Thanks for the help.

    Bashito

I would reboot into Safe Mode. Then go into the Device Manager, and remove all sound card entries, and all Devices with a yellow ! or ? next to it. Then reboot into normal mode and see if the sound card gets detected.
