Dean - Welcome to the Board :)

This is a browser problem - which browser are you using? IE6, 7, Firefox or another.

In IE go to Tools > Internet Options > Advanced and scroll down to Multimedia ensure that Play sounds in web pages is checked.

If that item is checked you may have a problem with the Flash Player .....

First download Adobe Flash Uninstaller and then install a fresh copy of Flash from here

Close Firefox. Go Start>All Programs>Mozilla Firefox, click on Mozilla Firefox (safe mode). Same thing?

As this problem appears to be related to Firefox I have moved the thread to that forum.

    corect

yes thats correct, sound on videos music players just not a peep online from you tube to bbc news, nothing.. have done most of those fault finding things before as ive had this problem for ages now but on saying that cant find anything specific to my problem, i really dont want to format and start again as i have a lot of data that would take far too long to burn and i dont want to loose it

Whenever in doubt, don't format. Always look, first, at something which is elementary, but, often overlooked. However, doesn't the sound come out of the same speakers using the music players. I don't understand this one.
