no sound from windows (but my musicprograms have)

i have no sound from windows xp but using my cubase musicprogramme i hear sound and both are using the same soundcard

The Cubase program will be bypassing the "standard" volume controls. It may be overriding the standard controls.

There are many audio controls, look in the Notification Tray (right-click on them). There may be a Windows volume control, an "Audio Manager" set of controls and maybe controls for the Cubase program. A volume setting may be set to off or mute.

Look through the icons in Control Panel and check for audio controllers. Check in Sound and Audio Devices.

Go to Start -> Run and enter dxdiag it has a few simple tests and information about the soundcard.

When did the problem start happening? Have you made changes to the audio system?
