No sound except CD

I recently upgraded the driver for my sound card (Realtek AC'97). Now only the CD player puts out sound.

Uninstalled the device with the hardware manager and installed the original driver, still no sound except CD.

Two things to try:

Do you have a System Restore point just before the new driver install?



Ran across this software:

Driver Cleaner Professional Editon is a program which helps you to remove parts of drivers that are left after uninstalling the old drivers.

I think there is a freeware version of this. Have never used it personally so can't tell you how effective this is.

If you do use it - please post back on it's effectiveness.

I neglected to say that I'm running Win 2K Pro. After trying a bunch of different drivers, I bought a sound card. Thanks anyway.
