I need a little more help. I have a pc that I essentially use as my stereo. I use an audio out of the sound card into my tuner, and it plays music. It suddenly stopped playing music, and for the life of me, I can't figure out why.

Here's what I've tried. I went to volume and made sure that nothing was muted (nothing is, and I cranked the volume up on everything). I went to the sound card; it's a Creative Labs AudioHQ. Version 1.20.04. Nothing is muted there. I took the cover off and made sure that nothing was loose inside.

I'm out of ideas. Why won't this thing play anymore? Any help is appreciated.

    thanks,
    Noel

Do you have any other speakers to check the output/input to the tuner?

Start -> Run, enter dxdiag, there are some tests there and information about the audio.

You can go to Device Manager -> Sound/Audio, highlight and uninstall the Creative Controller (it might be listed as SoundBlaster). When you restart, if the Add New Hardware wizard runs, use the selection "I will choose the drivers to install ", the creative model should be listed or at worst you will need to direct it to the drivers CD.

After that you may need to uninstall the Creative listing in Add or Remove Programs, then run the installation from the CD that came with the card.

    Matt,

Thanks for the reply. We can close this thread. I'll discuss what I did just to be complete.

    1) I know it's not the tuner and/or the speakers, as I have another computer hooked up through it, and that one works great.

    2) On your second step, I did get an error under sound: "DirectSound test results: Failure at step 19 (User verification of software): HRESULT = 0x00000000 (error code). "

I googled this and got lots of hits. Turns out, all that I had to do was run some diagnostics, and I was good and fixed.

    Thanks again,

    Noel
