I get this errow when trying to change the sound from an app. I do get sounds that I applied here and elsewhere. I checked the Device Manageer - no problem. I checked changing system sounds. They do work but I cannot change them.

An error occurred wen trying to access your sound card. Either you have no sound card or it is currently being used by another application

I can only think that it is a driver issue. I would find the latest drivers for your model at the manufacturer's website. If you installed SP2 before noticing the problem, this may be another reason to get the latest drivers.

Not certain what you mean by "change ", change the volume (tone, etc) or change the sound to something else? Edit: If you mean change a sound from one style to another, I might try changing it in Safe Mode so that there are no background progams trying to access the soundcard at the time.
