Was using the computer and it was working fine. I shut it down and when I went to boot it up a few hours later the monitor showed a message no video signal I shut it down. Then unplugged it from the wall plug, opened the case, took the card out (GeForce 9500GT) and put it back in. Got the same message when I booted up using the HDMI connector on the card. Disconnected that monitor and hooked a different monitor up using the VGA port on the card. Still got the same message. The mother board (MSI K9N6PGM2) has a VGA port. So I took out the video card and hooked the monitor to that. Again I got the same message on that monitor. Then too I don't known if it reverted back to the on-board VGA port as I can not see to get into the BIOS. All the lights come on along with the fans. I never got any beeps when booting up, then again I never did get any beeps when booting up. I'm thinking that I need a new video card but before I go out and buy one I would like to know what others think.

It has been quite a while since I have seen BIOS settings for changing between onboard graphics and a card, it should be automatic. If you have the card in, it should use that. If you take the card out, it should revert to the onboard graphics.

You can clean the connectors (gently) on the graphics card with a pure form of alcohol, I use Contact Cleaner and also spray it in the slot. You could do the same to the RAM modules, they are inter-related to an extent.

You should "Clear the CMOS ". There could be a jumper on the motherboard, read in the motherboard manual, or disconnect the power and take the motherboard battery out for 30 seconds or more.

I don't think a new video card would solve the problem, as you say you tested without the video card from your VGA port on the Motherboard, with the same result, No Signal.
It would seem very unlikely to be the Monitor, as you tested with 2 different Monitors with the same result.

Have you tried booting into Safe Mode, where you have a different video resolution I think 600x400. But then again, you are unable to get into the BIOS, so I would not hold much hope for getting into Safe Mode either.

Another DVI cable would be worth trying, rather than the HDMI that you tested with.

If Matt's suggestions bear no fruit, than there is a possibility that you might be looking at a faulty Motherboard.

Thanks for the replies mattman and hawk22. Here is the update.
I cleaned all the contacts on the cards and memory and reinstalled them. Changed the battery. Tried a different power supply. Took out all the cards and disconnected hard drives and DVD and used the on board VGA connector. None of these things changed a thing. Looks like the only thing left is a faulty motherboard like hawk said. I will mark this as resolved if I do not get anymore replies in the next 24 hours.

Hi Russ, before you go for another board - have you examined your CPU?
I had a similar experience a couple of years back and fortunately because I had bits and pieces lying around, I had a spare CPU of lower capacity which I installed.
It booted up OK - beeped once and all was OK. You will need to have thermal paste to install correctly and of course it will depend on whether you can get access to a CPU.
I was able to procure a new CPU and update Ghz slightly at the same time. Cheers Neil.

Just a note, well done hawk22 and retiredlearner for their suggestions, I didn't think there might be a whole lot of others

Isolating the problem will be answer. At the moment you cannot isolate the problem.

The CPU and the motherboard are almost treated as one, they are working together.

Well being that I do not have a extra CPU or motherboard, I ordered a motherboard. I took the one out of the case and looked it all over and could not see where it was burnt or parts needed to be resoldered. Maybe something went wrong with the BIOS. If that does not work all that is left is the CPU. For now I will mark this as solved. I will post back after I install the new motherboard.

Installed a new motherboard today. That must of been what the problem was as I now have a picture on my monitor.

Sounds good, thanks for letting us know.

You've covered quite a lot of ground. Your experience level will be the winner.
