I cannot send or receive emails. The problem applies to Windows Live and Mailwasher, so not limited to one program. I am getting an error code 0x800CC0D. I can still access my Yahoo account on the website, so I must be signed in correctly. I have tried a System Restore back to before the problem occurred. I have also tried Safe Mode, both without success.
Also an additional problem is that I cannot view videos online, which I think must be related, because it was ok until recently.
Any ideas what to try next?

Yes I did check online suggestions, they seem to suggest incorrectly typed account details, but I havn't tried to re-enter everything because the problem is not limited to one program.
I just tried to send an email through my Gmail account and it worked! So the problem seems to be limited to the Yahoo account. I am starting to think it could be a problem with the server.

Here's an answer that worked for this guy:The error number 0x800CCC0D translates to a "Cannot locate server ". I would
double check your email account settings. If they appear right, the next
step is to open a command prompt (dos window) and type:

    ping name_of_mail_server

The ping command will allow you to see if your computer can translate the
name of the mail server to an IP address. If this command fails, type:

    ipconfig /all

Jot down the numbers for the IP address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, and
DNS Servers fields and contact your ISP. They should be able to help
    troubleshoot connection problems.

    Worth a try. Neil.

Thanks Neil. Your reply helped point me in the right direction. I now have my email account back working. I don't know whether something was changed with the Yahoo server, but checking boxes for 'this server requires a secure connection (SSL)' for both outgoing and incoming emails, sorted the problem.
My problem with viewing online video turned out to be a problem with Internet Explorer. Still havn't found out why, but I am going to use Chrome in future, which works ok.
