It seems to me I once saw a tip on how to add the Save as... command to the menus in Windows 7 but I've forgotten where and don't know how to do it. I downloaded and installed Ultimate Windows Tweaker, hoping it would do the trick, but apparently it can't. Anyone know the secret?

Please give a specific example of something you'd be saving.

An image. I have over 2,000 of them saved in a folder -- mostly landscapes. A regular Save is OK much of the time, but sometimes I want to change the name of the file I'm saving, and the Save as... version allows me to do that. I had that option with Windows XP.

Where? There is no Save As in Windows Explorer?

I would expect to see Save As in your Image Editor and indeed it is in Photoshop running in 7 so I'm curious as to how/where and under what circumstances you are looking for Save As ....?

It used to be that when I was on-line and would see an image I wanted, I'd right-click on that image and a menu would open that included a Save as... option. Clicking on it would bring up a Save as... dialog box that would show the image file's name. I could save it with that name or change it to something else. My usual browser is SeaMonkey, now version 2.0.

    Now I understand :)

'Save Picture as' is there in IE8 on Win 7 - suggest you post in the SeaMonkey forum.

I was beginning to think that's what I'd better do. I'll try over there. Thanks.

So I open a thread in the SeaMonkey forum and the first reply I get is:

"I can't help you with your problem but, I can let you know that I have SM 2.0 installed and I can still right click and "Save As" the image same as you describe and as we have always been able to do with all other versions of SM

However, My OS is XP but, at least this should tell us it is caused by Windows 7 and not a SM 2.0 problem. "

Apparently the issue isn't Resolved here yet after all. I don't want to be cross-posting, but I have a good excuse, don't I?

Some images are protected from being saved.....What happens when you right click on mine or Pete's MVP logo in out signatures?

IE* shows a Save Target As or Save Picture As...

I right-clicked on yours and the menu included the Save Image As... option, the way it should.

Then-> "Some images are protected from being saved" is probably the problem and you'd have to contact the web site to get their permission etc.

The problem got fixed last night and I reported that in the Firefox/SeaMonkey forum but not in this one. Here's the solution:

    In SeaMonkey, go to:
    Preferences > Browser > Downloads.
Check "Always ask me where to save files ".

That did it, but I'm not sure why. I already knew where I wanted the file to go and had entered that info. Why that check mark would change the contents of the menu is a mystery. But the problem seems to be solved.

Thanks to everyone who offered their help. I'll mark this thread as Resolved now.
