I have a Sony Vaio laptop running XP. I prefer my Power Options to be set at 'Always On'. However, something has happened that shows no Power Schemes available. Also, there seems to be no way to create one. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

    Johanna,

The dialog box is there but you can't click on any of the functions in the dialog box and there are no Power Schemes to choose from. I can't even create any. Thanks for your reply.

And most of all, are you logging in with a user that has at least Power User rights, if not Administrator ?
It sounds like you are a user without rights... Can it be?

This computer doesn't stop to ask me to sign in. That may be the problem. I'm not sure. I am very much a novice with this.

    In your registry, look under:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\PowerCfg\PowerPolicies

There should be subfolders (keys) with numbers from "0" onwards. If the numbers have a gap in the sequence, the power panel properties will be "grayed out" or otherwise unavailable.

I found this out by making up some custom profiles, then deleting the standard MS profiles which put the key numbers out of sequence, causing the above problem. You can still build custom profiles, but will need to edit the registry key "numbers" in order for it to work.
