I did a clean install of 2000pro on a friend's computer for her cuz "I knew what I was doing "....ha
Now it doesn't recognize the modem installed...no internet.......
I have gotten new drivers for it and installed them still nothing.
I'm thinkin I neew to do another clean install, BUT this time REMOVE the modem and then do the install...Am I correct?
But y doesn't it recognize the modem anyway? What happened to it? If it was just that the modem was too old for 2000 then the new drivers should've worked, no?

    Win-Modem?

I remember having the same problem some years ago with a 'win-modem'. Just having the drivers and letting Win2k install them did not work. I had to load and run an executable (.EXE) install file from the modem manufacturer. You might search the internet for this or just go buy a more current modem board. They are very cheap, now.

    Good Luck

Is your modem showing up in Device Manager?

To get to Device Manager, go to Control Panel-System-Hardware-Device Manager.

Tip: Right clicking on My Computer on your desktop and choosing Properties is the same as going to Control Panel-System

If it is detected it should be under a section in Device Manager called Modems, and may have an ! next to it.

If its there, you can right-click on it in the list, and choose Update Drivers, and follow the bouncing ball to install the new drivers. Often you must load modem drivers this way anyway as running installers may not work as expected.

If it isnt there, you have a problem that may be:

--The modem isnt seated correctly in the slot inside your PC (if its an internal modem) or not connected
properly or powered up (if it is external),

--You have a resource conflict with another device, (solving that is more technical so wont do so yet),

--Your modem isnt Win2K compatible or you have the wrong driver.

    Good Luck
