Bloody machine was working fine on Saturday, but this AM when we tried to do an update, the screen remained blank. Had to "power down" and reboot and once the HDD had verified DMI pool, the screen went blank again. Keyboard has Num/Cap/Scroll locks lit all the time, even when booting up...no flickers. Mouse has no motion on cursor on-screen.

Third time it booted up to the desktop, but only after I swapped inputs on the keyboard and mouse, but since the keyboard and mouse are not bing read by the computer I have no way to get into Safe Mode to see if there's a driver problem.

Both are PS2 devices. No USB devices plugged in.

    WINXP Pro SP 2

    MORE INFO

OK Replaced the keyboard and the mouse (mouse with a wireless via USB) and both are working, so its no longer a "help me!" call, but now its a "Wha Hoppen'?" question!

Will try replacing the USB mouse with a known working PS2 mouse to see if that works, but appparently we're back in business for the moment.

    SOLVED

OK replaced the USB with a known working PS2 mouse and all's right again with the world. Tried the keyboard in another computer and got the same thing... three lites across and nothing on screen after teh DMI pool verify, so I'm assuming the keyboard has either a short or an open in it. Keyboards are cheep.

So, a non-post. Admin may close and/or remove if it wishes.

Glad to hear that you solved the problem. thanks for the update - amazes me how cheap a std. wired keyboard is, considering the relative complexity :)

For future reference better to make a new post than edit an old one - not everybody re-reads the old posts - easy to miss an update :)

    Right... got it.

Was trying not to clutter up the board with extraneous messages but I DO see the point and wilco in future.

    Thanks again.
