    STATUS
    Local Network Configuration -
Two XP's and (1) w98SE wired to router (192.168.0.3). All computers see each other and shares work fine. Both XP's can access Internet, w98 can not. Current w98 auto-start program loads exclude Firewall and AV from startup.

Last night I updated drivers on my w98/NIC. After update, w98 COULD see Internet, but not local network. After I added back in Client for MicroSoft Networks in network settings, this forced network logon script (auto logs via TweakUI) and everything was back to normal.
This morning computer worked fine on local network, but IE6 or Firefox could NOT see Internet. Checked router, it see's all 3 connected computers and both XP's can access Internet but not w98. With firewall, AV not loading on w98, and both XP's seeing internet, I feel any program/security block to Internet is not a problem. Some setting changed in w98 that is not allowing it to see Internet access via router. I have gone through w98 settings but can not find what I'm missing. I've included TWO ipconfigs / all. The first was the original, the second forces an DNS value in w98 settings. It show in list as NetBIOS Resolution Uses DNS : Yes. Did not work. Also included an Aida32 network view report. Any suggestions?? (Helps to turn off word-wrap when opening .txt files)

    Thanks

    FIXED :D :p :)

After trying and reviewing everything I could think of, I went for the last resort ... downloaded and ran WinSockFix 1.1.0.13 .. and it worked.
Checking all of the ipconfig /all logs (had a number of them), they are identical to the current "running log" (with exception, it did remove the DNS / yes setting, but that was a last ditch effort). This also includes Aida32 network reports identical before (broke) and after (fixed). I also went into all the TCP/IP settings and they did not change (except DNS setting). My only conclusion, must have been some stubborn Registry settings WinSockFix fixed and or resetting TCP/IP stack. I will never know, don't care, it's fixed and if I get into this self-inflicted pickle I'll use it a lot earlier.
The self-inflicted pickle I'm referring to is I challenged the rules, I tried to fix something that was NOT broke. My w98/NIC/network speed is stated at 10MB (router says 100MB) so I decided updating driver might get it to change to 100MB. We'll 6 hours later guess what, it's still saying 10MB. Live and learn.
