    Hi all,

Yesterday, I wiped the 32-bit XP installation on my Lenovo T61P laptop in favor of 64-bit Windows 7.

All ran smoothly, and with the exception of a few missing drivers, I was good to go. Network connection here at work is wired. Internet, domain joining, etc all went fine.

Then I packed up and went home. Connected to my wireless there without issue and even setup a VPN connection back to work. All went well.

This morning, I returned to work and low and behold, I have no internet access... HUH?!

I took a screenshot of the LAN connection details, where everything looks right. I also put my "ipconfig /all" into a text file. I'd like to post them here, but don't see a way to. In the ipconfig, it is showing the proper Default Gaateway in the list, BUT before that, there is a DG of 0.0.0.0 which makes no sense.

I can ping internal addresses. I cannot ping web addresses. It returns as "Destination Host Unreachable ".

I'd appreciate any help. I am the IT Manager (dept. of ONE) here at a school and without internet access I am in a world of hurt. Windows 7 is still new to me, so I am diagnosing as best I can, but would appreciate help from you experts! Thanks!

You can just copy/paste the output of ipconfig /all in your post. You'll have to link your screen shot from a free image host. Attaching files is a privilege of Subscribing Members.

Great! Here's the ipconfig file... I'll see what I can do about posting the image somewhere...

As you can see, the default gateway of 10.34.0.1 IS there, but it's AFTER a 0.0.0.0. I don't know what that is... 10.34.0.1 IS the proper gateway, and it is also the DHCP server. My DNS server is manually set to 10.34.0.30, which is also correct. So I am getting an IP address, just no connectivity except for locally (for example, I can see all my local LAN resources).

    THANKS!

Wait a sec... Now it works! All of a suden, after about the 10th reboot of the day... The 0.0.0.0 is now gone on the DG listing in ipconfig and it works. ***?? *SIGH*

I'll take it, but does anyone know what WAS going on?

    I'll see if this lasts...

So much for that... Not working again... While it was up, I downloaded Lenovo's System Update 4 (for Windows 7) so I could try to get drivers. Required a reboot. After rebooting, internet gone again... Same issue...

You'll have to find out where that entry is coming from. Either fro that PCs TCP/IP settings, or maybe from the domain?

I don't know where it's coming from, but I have a theory. Firstly, it is intermittent. At this point, it works most times. Sometimes not. But mainly, it'll work if I really let it fully finish loading at starttup. If I jump the gun and launch apps a bit early, it tends to fail. Don't know what that has to do with anything...

But I think the 0.0.0.0 culprit is IPv6... So I'd like to uninstall that protocol. But I can't seem to even though I'm an admin. Can I do this?

Wait, nevermind... I just realized you can uncheck IPv6... I don't think that uninstalls it, but perhapps just disables it on this LAN interface? I'm going to watch it for a few days and see what effects there are... Will let you know.

EDIT: Well, that didn't work... By disabling IPv6, I ompletely killed it... No internet access at all. Seems that the interface needs IPv6 for some reason... ARGH

OK, so seeing as how IPv6 now does NOT seem to be the bad guy, what could be? I am set to receive a DHC address. I am. I manally set DNS to 10.34.0.30, which is my correct DNS server. Everything else is at default. The domain couldn't be doing this because I'm the only one having the issue, AND I'm the only one with an OS other than XP Pro... It's gotta be a local problem with 7...

Here's something interesting... So when you RELEASE IP info with "ipconfig/release" what usually happens is that you get a listing of all 's for IP address, subnet mask, etc... But normally, the default gateway is blank. Totally blank... For example, that is what I see on this PC (the XP PC I am using when my web doesn't work on the laptop). BUT, when I run that same command on the now-not-working Windows 7 laptop, I see 0.0.0.0 in the default gateway field, and that is after I've run "ipconfig /release ".

This is, no dobut, the problem... But where could it be coming from?! AAAAAHHHHH!

    FIXED:

It was the Bonjour Sevrice from Apple that was screwing everything up. This article explains the issue. I set the Bonjour Sevice to a DELAYED start and it now all works perfectly fine. Here is the article.

    It did :)

Been suffering the same problem in 7 Pro x64 - no internet connection on boot, a situation I found I could resolve by disabling the LAN and re-enabling it - a real PITA.

Had checked ipconfig after the connection was restored and all was OK. Just checked it before restoring the connection and - you'e guessed it - the default gateway was all zeros.

Bonjour was installed in my case by Photoshop - service has been disabled.

Many thanks for posting the solution :)
