Several weeks ago, after a windows update, I lost all the sounds on the internet. You tube, news, weather etc, video is fine but no audio.
I can play cd's and dvd, and media player works fine with audio. Windows sound are all good. I have gone through all the set ups many time and can't find the problem. All volumn controls are set to high and none muted. All audio codecs are up to date. The only descrepency I can find is in device manager all audio and video codecs are listed. If I go to tools, system information, no audio or video codecs are listed. Not sure what that means.
There have also been several Flash updates recently. I did dump and re-install all Adobe stuff but no help.
This happened too long ago for a restore. Anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks

    Lynn

    Sounds like a browser setting.
If using IE check under Tools – Internet Options – Advanced tab – scroll down to Multimedia – and check that Play sounds in webpages is turned ON

You can also try, same place, Restore advanced settings.

OK, I should have stated, I use Firefox most of the time. My problem exists in all browsers - Firefox, Explorer, Netscape, Seamonkey. No sound on any of them. I did check the sound in IE and it was checked on. My on motherboard sound is listed as Realtek AC97 if that's any help. I have the latest drivers. I think my profile has listed that I use Win XP Pro with sp3 and all updates. I almost to the point of a complete re-install, but hate to think of the time involved.

Doesn’t sound good that problem is with all browsers.

For kicks - try the Restore advanced settings in IE.
Restart and check sounds with it.
I’ll now be surprised if it works – but…

A quick google search turns up a few suggestions.
    Various ones sometimes work.

Agree about the re-install and time involved.
Might want to try a repair installation first.

Try going to the website of your system manufacturer and check for an drivers/software for your audio. Hint...don't use Windows Updates to get "optional" updates (hardware drivers), get them from your computer manufacturer or the hardware manufacturer, like Realtek.

I suggest you find "recent" drivers/software for your Realtek audio. Uninstall the old ones (Add/Remove Programs), then install the new ones.

I went to the advance section of IE, but that didn't help. I've been checking Google and they have lots of promised fixes. I had tried one of them and for 30 bucks I got nothing. Several of the others find driver problems but they all want 29.99 to fix them.

I'm still playing with this as I get time. No power yesterday due to snow storm, so I'm back at it today.

Will let you know if I find anything. According to Google, there are many of us having the same problem.

    OK, Lynn.

I can't help you with this issue but can I offer some advice...

DO NOT pay for assistance for matters like this on the internet unless you are absolutely clear about the credentials and reputation of the company.

Reporting back on my audio problem. I have it fixed as of now, but quite by accident. I started removing old files and programs in preparation for a repair or re-install. About a year ago I downloaded a program called Combo Fix – don’t remember why. Using the control panel, remove programs it didn’t show up. Tried Revo software removal tool and it didn’t show up there either. I had to find the program and delete it in pieces, then cleaned the registry. Rebooted and all sounds are back, and the whole system is about 3 or 4 times faster. Don’t know what one had to do with the other, but I’m glad it’s fixed.
Thanks for all the suggestions and help.

    Lynn
