no icons will work

    when I try to open any icons on desktop nothing will open. I have been getting a missing rundll32.exe message. Would appreciate some help

    Does this happen will all of the desktop icons?

    Also, please post the exact error message you are getting.

    If you're running XP, type rundll32.exe in the search field and see if it's truly missing on your hard drive. If it is, type sfc in the run command line and let it replace the file for you (provided you have the XP installation CD).

    If you have a little kid at home, perhaps it's been accidentally deleted or perhaps you've been infected with some sort of a virus.

    Have you tried to use System Restore?
