no icon/start menu probelems also!

Hello..I have had similar issues as other threads I have read regarding no icons or trays but have not been able to find a solution as of yet. Basically my story is this....I was in Itunes.com when my computer froze up. I had to shut it off by power button. When it powered back up I had no icons or start menu...basically just my background. (and was very slow when it rebooted...). Also cannot right click when I am there either. I have done the following so far with no success...
1.) Tried System Restore in Safe Mode. This did nothing.
2.) Checked (in Safe Mode) to make sure Desktop wasn't locked and that icons were set to be displayed. Things were fine there.
3.) Tried to reinstall Windows. Gets to screen where my option are to reinstall, repair or quit. No matter what key I hit nothing happens.
4.) Searched Microsoft Windows support site. Not much help there.

Desperate for more ideas. Thanks in advance for any suggestions....

 

had same problem when using another app

i had it happen to me and it was caused by a backdoor trojan virus.
i downloaded lastest FREE version of AVG free anti-virus software and ran it and it found two trojans, one call trojan backdoor and some other one. after running a high priority scan, the program delete them from my system, i restarted the computer and EVERYTHING went back to normal operation.
