I just noticed when I get to some newsgroups, I can't play WAV or see some binary pictures?

    Running 7.01 and XP Pro.

It appears I have an EMPTY HELPER APPLICATION list?

I have a fairly complete list in my 4.7 NS? Is there a way to 'migrate' the application list over? I know the 7.0 file is mimetype.rdf, but I can't find one like that for 4.7?

I never get asked for a helper either it seems, the news items just show blank?

    Any thoughts?

    Welcome to the Forum, Irv!

    Hi Irv,

To enable plugins for your Newsgroups:
    Edit | Preferences | Advanced | Scripts & Plugins
    Enable: Mail & Newsgroups

Netscape 7 uses the same helper applications as Windows, but doesn't list them. You can add a helper application here:
    Navigator | Helper Applications
    Select "New Type "
Setting up helper applications manually does require some technical
knowledge about MIME types. Here are a few links that might prove helpful:
Here are some lists of MIME types, including types which are not
    officially registered.
MIME Type Settings for Windows Media Services
    http://hostutopia.com/support/s058.html
    http://home.att.net/~skchen/pwp-mime-type.html
    http://www.asahi-net.or.jp/en/guide/cgi/mimetype.html

Have you copied your Communicator Plugins to Netscape 7? Most plugins will work, without having to be reinstalled, and pointed to Netscape 7. Click on Help | About Plug-ins to see a list of your plugins and the file types handled by each.

    Post back with any questions.

    Ramona :D

    OK, understand

OK, didn't know that it used the Windows defaults. Used to seeing a whole list of items.

I know how to add them, but I also don't know when I'm missing some? Is there an option to always have Windows 'ask' when it can't find any? I think, but am not sure that some parts of messages in newsgroups are not getting through? It could very well be my ISP though? I think the next time I have a suspect message I'll open up 4.6 and try to read the message.

    Thanks for the help!

    Irv
