I recently received the blue screen with an error message of C0000102 stating that I needed to run the chkdsk. Also, it didn't allow me to run in safe mode, it only allowed me to 'try to repair windows'...so, I attempted to restore my computer. It wasn't doing anything after 45 minutes so I shut it down manually. When I restarted it my hard drive was GONE. I tried to reinstall Windows but since I am missing my hard drive it won't work.

    HELP!

My apologies for the delayed response. I believe the hard drive DID die because it was slammed shut quite hard. I didn't know HDs were so fragile. Thank you.

Don't "hard shutdown" during any repair situation. Let it keep running. Turn the monitor off, walk away and let it run it's course. That said, it might be too late to recover your data.

Can you try going through the process to do a "Startup Repair" again? Go through even further and see if it offers to repair the current installation of Windows.

Don't hard-shutdown if you think the repair utility has stalled. Turn off the monitor, go away and check again several hours later.

I read OP's post as referring to a laptop and the problem arising after slamming the lid shut. If the heads were reading/writing at that time quite possible that they collided with the platters?

As I usually say: "Believing is something you'll do in church ". Here we like to know.

So I suggest you run the diagnostics on the drive. That will tell you what the problem is.
