No EPS Preview in Word 2000 on XP Pro

I have a problem displaying inserted eps files in Word 2000 on XP pro.

I know that a preview is saved with the file as it displays ok on a nother workstation with an identical setup.

Apparently word 2002 displays the actual eps rather than a tiff preview but we don't run 2002 so thats out of the question.

The eps frame shows a message saying there is no preview attached to the eps.

other image formats insert ok.
Please help, this is a pain in the bleep.

 

First an admission: my first reaction on reading your posting was "what's an EPS file? ". I've come back to it a couple of days later and curiosity got the better of me and I did a google search for "EPS file ". Top of the list on the results page was this page , which I think answers both your question and mine.

It looks as though whether you have a preview attached depends of the graphics application you used to create it.

I've been playing around making my own eps files in illustrator.

It seems my copy of Word 2000 will only display previews which are saved as 1bit IBM PC.

The problem is the 1bit previews look rubbish.Other pcs in our office running xp and word 2000 can display the 8bit IBM PC previews.Please, does anyone know anything about this.

I've already checked and I do have the EPS graphics filter installed in Word

seems you need to save the eps as compatible with illustrator 7 and then it imports nicely into word.
