    HI,
I had some problems with Win 2000 Pro and ended up reinstalling it.
After doing that I went over everything and installed what was missing, drivers and etc.

I have a USB card reader I use to read the smartmedia card from my digital camera. I had it set up with the drive letter S: before installing and there was also other letters that I didnt use - it is a 5 in 1 reader. I dont use the others.

After installing Win2000 I do not have the drives for the card reader in Windows Explorer any more. I also have a HP Photosmart printer that has a card reader in it and that shows up fine in windows explorer. The reder in the printer is amazingly slow so I dont use it.

In the device manager I have under Disk Drives - USB Card Reader USB Device. It says This device is working properly. It is using the disk.sys driver from Windows. It worked fine with that before my windows problems and reinstalling win2000.

How can I get my drives to show up?

    Thanks!

Unlike XP, W2K doesn't have native support for many USB devices like card readers. Get yourself to the readers web site and find some W2K drivers. Install those. You may need to uninstall (delete the drive form the device manager) first or after, reconnect and let Windows detect the drive again.
Also make sure you are running a later service pack such as SP3 or SP4 as some USB related fixes are included.

It is an Apacer 5 in 1 card reader. I bought it specifically because it said that it ran off of the windows driver. It was working like that fine for a long time until my windows problem happened. The problem was caused by, believe it or not, installing the software for the Microsoft OpticalMouse. Thats right, a microsoft products software completely left Windows 2K Pro completely ******* up - no mouse, no keyboard. But thats another story, I fixed that problem.

I checked the apacer site and there are no drivers for Win 2K, I assume because it is supposed to work with the native Windows driver for a removable/mass storage device.

I found the box it came in. It says:
System Support: No Driver required for Windows ME, Windows 2000.

How could it work perfectly for a long time and then all I do is reinstall windows and now it does not show up? Windows is so self destructive, it amazes me.
