In device manager, is the modem or wireless device (you have not said what you have) showing in the list? Does it have a yellow triangle next to it?

You could try, via Device Manager, to completely uninstall the connection device and then reboot the PC. Windows should then show a pop up at start up saying that it has found new hardware and is installing the drivers. If you have the most up to date drivers then go via device manager and from the device properties update the drivers.

If you still have a problem with this please report back with the internet device, name, make and model number and likewise for your PC.

I can only assume this is an external modem, I cannot get a fix on any details using the model number to do a search, please tell us what the manufacturers name is.

If it is external try this.

Shut down the PC. Unplug the modem from the PC. Reboot the PC and then after it has finished booting plug the modem back in. It should detect the new hardware and install windows drivers, you should see a pop up saying that windows has found new hardware and is installing the drivers.

How was the modem first installed? Or have you just bought it without a drivers disc?

You have only told us what your CPU is, it will help if you tell us the computer name and model number.

It is difficult to help you if you do not answer all the questions:).

Tell us the manufacturer of th modem and try Markmandras suggestion. We need to know if the modem installed correctly, from there we can know how to proceed.

Sometimes simply disconnecting connectors and power from the modem for 15 minutes will force reload, and reset connections. If there's an install disk from your ISP (newest one they offer, if possible), they're usually self-explanatory. The network setup wizard in IE Options >Connections is worth trying. Sometimes the driver doesn't show unless you follow these instructions: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/315539 You must still select "view" tab, check > "show hidden devices ". Find the Modem driver and uninstall it (r.-click, select uninstall). Disconnect the modem from the computer. Restart the computer. After reboot, reconnect the modem to the computer and see if "found new hardware" dialog comes up.
It stinks to lose your connection. BTW, how did you get online to get here? If this works, please let us know--if not, let's try the next step.
