    Hi,
I have read lots of posts on making defrag's job easier by deleting things in APPLOG and unchecking Task Monitor in msconfig, startup (I did that one).
However ,,,when I go looking for APPLOG in my computer, by using Windows Explorer I cannot fid it. Even when I use FIND and type in APPLOG nothing shows up.
I am using a laptop.....is applog maybe called something else on a laptop

It is hidden so in My Computer click view-folder options-view, and in hidden files put a check in show all files.

    Then you will see it.

Afterwards set the show all files back to "Do not show hidden or system files" as this will protect you from yourself. Smile!

If you deleted taskmon then that is really all that is really nesesary. But to save HD space, delete the Applog folder also.

Browse to c:\windows and delete the Applog folder if it exists, if not forget it.

I have found though that even after you remove taskmon, windows will recreate the empty folder. And one named Applog$$$$. So as long as they are empty you are saving space on the HD.

I just want to add, on our PC win me I can search for hidden files and find even if marked to not be shown ,if correct name is known.
so win 98 and se, and XP is differant in that respect ?

    Hi Lonnie

    Sounds typical!

But I have never measured. I think BillyBob may have a figure.

    Hi Mikeflynn,
I followed your excellent instructions and did click show all files. The only file that showed up close to the one I was looking for was Applications. No Applog file anywhere I could see.
This laptop has Windows 98Plus as an OS. So I don't know if it is called something else.
About Taskmon. I simply unchecked it in the msconfig-startup list. Would it be better to DELETE it? I went into Windows-System and only found a Taskmon that had an icon like an EXE icon, like the white screen with a blue top bar. No folder.
Is that the Taskmon everyone says is OK to DELETE?

Yes it is ok to delete this file and the Applog folder is gone already so no problem.
