newsreader filters

I've a problem with setting up filters for newsgroups. Several times I've gone through Tools/Message filters and used both the subject AND then the Sender and still found that on opening the newsgroup a day later both were clearly visible and had not been filtered. Why?

 

Any particular newsgroup? I will have to check this out, but I have never had the occasion to filter anything.
