I am using a standard 56K dialup modem. I have Navigator 4.7 that I have used when wanting to use the this software. I also use Internet Explorer 6 as my main browser.

Is there a much newer version of this product that would be much better?

I know of many cases where some useres tried Navigator 6 and had a lot of problems after.

My question is... Is there a newer version that would be very good and stable, and that would perform well for standard dialup usage?

I was told by a few people, that Navigator, and Communicator are now designed for AOL users only. Is this also true?

    Thank you.

    Jerryg50,

Welcome to the board! Personally, I use Netscape 4.78 and 7.01. Netscape 7.x is the newest version and runs very good. I find that it is faster then previous versions. I would definitely stay away from version 6.x as they were full of problems. I use 4.78 for my mail and newsgroup. I hear that the mail/newsgroups in 7.x work pretty good. I just haven't switched over yet.

Like I said, 7.x runs really good and is very stable. I can also access sites with 7 that I wasn't able to access with 4.78. I would give 7 a chance. You can run 7 with your 4.7 because it is not an upgrade. Keep 4.7 and play around with 7 to see if you like it. I don't think there is much truth about the AOL deal. I don't use AOL and everything works.

    Hi Mike,

I would like to thank you for your answer. :)

I will certainly give version 7 a chance to see what it is. I am glad to hear that I can still keep the 4.7 version in the system at the same time.

I would be curious to know how much hard disk space version 7 will occupy, if this is something you would know.

    Greetings,

    Jerry Greenberg

    JerryG50,

You're welcome. According to the Netscape site, 7.0 needs 52MB of space. Of course, that depends on how many components you install. I did not install the mail part, so mine was less. Can't remember how much less though.

I'm sure that you will like Netscape 7. If you have any questions, post back.
