Hi everyone -- Got a new HP computer with XP pre installed. The problem is I don't have any disks. I have a recovery disk which is the same as what came installed. Lots of junk and unwanted shareware. Took a couple of days to clean it up.

Can I make a operating system disk from the files on the hdd? I have the product key number for my version of XP. But I'd like to have a disk so I can wipe the hdd and install xp and just the programs I want. Not the junk.

If the above isn't possible would it be legal for me to copy a friends cd and use my pk number when I reinstall?

Also, how do I make a boot disk? I didn't get one of those either.

    All advice appreciated. Thanks.

Rule #3 calls for a 'meaningful' thread title.
