I have a second computer I would like to use at home and was told I could network with a router and card for the desktop computer I want to use wireless. I purchased a Microsoft MN-700 wireless-G Router when I was at costgo because it was at a good price. I haven't looked for the card that I also need but have bcome a bit confused with the diagram on the box for the router. Why does it show adapters? I didn't think I needed anything other than the router and the card. As you can see I'm new to this and I'm sure I can get it done as long as I have the correct components. Also, is the router I bought a desirable one? My wired computer is a new dell and connected to DSL. When I go to get the card I need, are there options or is there a universal desktop card and can I be sure the card will work in the computer I have, which is a 4 1/2 year old IBM Aptiva.

"Network adapter" is just another name for "network card," also called "network interface card" or "Nic. "

If the Aptiva has one or more empty PCI slots (they're the white ones on the motherboard), then any standard network adapter/card should work. It'll all a matter of physically installing the card and installing its drivers (software - on a CD or a floppy in the box with the adapter/card).

Just follow the instructions that come with the adapter/card.
