Maybe I should'nt be asking this on this forum, but here goes. I just today downloaded NS 7.1. and signed up for the Email service. For the past 5 years I have used IE and Outlook Express. Everything I have done has been with Windows 98se. Seems there a lot of error messages and freeze-up with OLEX and IE. My question, Is there any reason to keep IE 6.0 on my computer? I have already removed OLEXP. What are the pros and cons of keeping it or removing it. I figure someone here has experience with using both browsers.
If I uninstall IE, will all the critical updates be uninstalled with it and will there be problems if they are no longer on computer. Any suggestions anyone?
    Thank you

    Earlalex,

I would strongly advise you to not uninstall Internet Explorer! It is integrated into the OS (98SE) to the extent that you could very well be forced to reformat your HD. Yes, you would definitely lose Security Patches/Updates. Many are for IE...

If you intend to use Netscape or Mozilla for your default browser (excellent decision) then there is a program you can use to lock down IE, called Enough is Enough. It is freeware and can be downloaded here:

I use this program, and find it very efficient. I can't even remember the last time I opened IE.

    Hi Earl,

    You're most welcome!

MS will be discontinuing IE as a free, downloadable software application. It will be integrated as a part of the next Windows OS version, which is now called "Longhorn ". Thus forcing users to upgrade their OS if they want an upgraded browser, security fixes, etc....

This is an older News Article, but interesting:
