After the latest W10 update, I now have 2 users named Tom on the login screen - both are me however my password does not work on the one that the computer defaults to login under.

The other user shows my Microsoft account email address (where the first does not) and my password works and I log into my normal desktop.

I have noticed this on two other machines as well. One machine logged in automatically to the new user and there was nothing familiar about the desktop. There were no user settings or data available until we logged in under the other user.

When I open User Accounts in Control Panel, there is only the one user with the correct email address. Where did the 2nd user come from? How do I get rid of the intruder?

    Thanks

If you Right click Start > Run > type netplwiz and OK > User accounts will display and you can click on the dual entry and Remove. Close out - should be only one showing after that. Neil.

There was only one entry under my email address however, it showed as
    email@mydomain Administrators; Users

When I clicked on Properties and the rest follows:

In a possibly bizarre scheme of events, what ended up happening when I entered control userpasswords2 was I changed the username on the General tab. When this happened, the entire user disappeared. When I clicked OK on the window I was expecting to be told to Log off... instead I wasn't able to do do anything as Explorer had ceased to function. I had to do a hard restart of the computer and surprisingly when it restarted (having feared the worst), I got the regular startup screen where I entered my PIN and all was well.

I returned to control userpasswords2 and now saw
    email@mydomain Administrators - no "Users"

and in Properties, my new username was in place.

    Thanks for all responses.
