Hi folks, I bit the bullet and reinstalled Win XP which had to be a fresh install by a technician since the blue screen of death prevented me from running an upgrade from 2000.

I've spent the last two days reinstalling software and today have been getting constant dumps and reboots. Have tried rolling the system back to a restore point but this hasn't helped. Major problem seems to be InCD which I have installed and uninstalled several times.

In case anyone can understand it, following is the error report XP tries to send to Microsoft:

    BCCode : f4 BCP1 : 00000003 BCP2 : 866B0DA0 BCP3 : 866B0F14
    BCP4 : 805FA7A8 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product : 256_1

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks for your time,
    Jo

"The first step to try and solve your problem is to make the error actually readable. Open your system properties, click the advanced tab and then the settings button under startup and recovery. Uncheck 'Automatically Restart' and OK all of the open windows. Next time a stop error is generated you should be able to see it now. "

    Introduction to Stop Errors

"Stop errors in a nutshell are errors that are serious enough to cause Windows to stop. They are similar to the blue screen errors that were present on Windows 9x, however there is no option to try and resume the session in a Windows NT Stop Error (Windows 2000 and all XP members included). "

Hi Jo: Sorry to hear about your problem. Just wondering, you don't happen to have a HP USB printer attached and running do you? (not meaning printing, just connected and turned on)

    I did at one time. ( HP5550 )

If I turned it off before restarting or booting the first time for the day I would have no trouble.

It is still connected but turned off. I went to a Networkable HP 5850 plugged into the network switch and no more problems.

Reason for the question: My HP 7760 would crash my machine to BSoD if connected at boot or plugged in hot swap when machine running.

I spent an hour or more on online chat HP techs. 3 of them, none could find a solution.

Searched their help files: BSOD. Immediate response, "to fix edit registry" did it, problem fixed. Don't remember the hack though, but if Jo has HP printer, I would look it up.

Thanks for your replies. No, I don't have an HP printer, I have Epson. Steve I haven't had any more crashes, but next time I'll follow your advice on stop errors.

Yesterday and today everything was fine. The only glitch is that I can't remove Photoshop CS. Install shield says it has run into problems and needs to abort. I've gone back for a look at restore points and there is no instance of it being installed, but several instances of it being removed.

The initial install a couple of days ago was unsuccessful so I took it off, but it won't stay off. Since I can't find a restore point for pre-install, can I just delete the whole directory and then run a registry clean?

    Thanks again for your advice,
    Jo

Your install of PS CS looks to be corrupt. Before you start deleting the files and folders and trawling through the Registry (make a back up first) try a reinstallation of CS followed by an uninstallation. This is the preferred route.

PS installs into more than one folder - Adobe and Common Files/Adobe for a start plus various Windows folders. If you have any other Adobe apps be careful in the Common Files/Adobe folder as these files relate to all installed Adobe applications.
