My brother purchased a new HDD (as above) and we used Seagate Wizard to Clone his old drive and hopefully install to new drive.
Something went wrong with the clone process and we ended up with a Partition showing on the new drive of 3950MB's.:confused:
It won't boot and can some knowledgeable person explain how to wipe/format this new drive back to original so that we can install a new W7 Pro OS to it? Thanks. Neil.

When you boot off the Win 7 dvd you are given the change to delete partitions and recreate them.

Steve the "clone" did not work. We got 3950MB's on the new drive. From memory there was about 30GB's on the old drive so obviously it was an incomplete clone. We used Seagates "Wizard" which has Acronis to clone and we set it to Auto complete clone of drive.
There was no "boot" to the new drive as we get the message that there is no system found.
What I want to do is remove the 3950 MB's from the new drive so that we can install W7 Pro to the drive. This is a new OS as the original we tried to clone was W7 Home Premium.
My brother made the decision to forget about doing a clone as he had copied data that he wanted and the W7 Home Premium was installed by the previous owner at the time of the sale. No disc was available (my brother's mistake) and as the HDD was failing, he bought a new 500GB HDD and when the cloning failed, he purchased a Product Key and I Downloaded and burned the ISO to DVD.
When I put the new drive into my comp, I thought I would be able to Format it but I can't get it to operate. I've slaved PATA HDD's before and Formatted them but SATA seems to be a different kettle of fish.
I need to get the HDD recognized in my comp and that is where I need help.
I'm using my comp as the other comp is a Lenovo M55p Thinkcentre which only has 1 HDD and 1 DVD player. (2 only SATA connecters). Minimal BIOS which will only recognize 1 HDD. Neil.

I would install this new drive in another computer as a secondary (NOT boot) drive and then partition (re-partition) and format as necessary from there.

And did you format the drive BEFORE attempting to put the clone image on it.

Thanks Bill. No I did not Format before doing the clone - probably the mistake as I had not done a clone on a new HDD before.
My comp shows SATA connectors as 0 channel Master and Slave. Channel 1 ditto 2 ditto so I'll try as you suggest and report back. Neil.

What exactly does it say? SATA does not use Master and Slave because SATA cables support only one drive per cable. Master and Slave are used when connecting two PATA (EIDE) drives to the same IDE cable.

    Bill, in BIOS it shows Channel 0 M and Channel 0 S. Channel 1 M and Channel 1 S.
I connected the HDD and used my W7 HDD and opened Disk Management and it showed the 2 HDD's but the new one showed 3.8GB's and Right clicking did not give me opportunity to Format.
I then ran Seagate Seatools which brought up the drives but it could not carry out any tests or erase the new drive.
Unless someone has a method I can Format this new drive, I'm beginning to think it's toasted. Neil.

With the drive as a secondary drive (not boot), if Seatools reports problems it cannot resolve, then contact Seagate and get a RMA for a replacement. Tell them it fails Seatools.

Thanks Bill, I think my brother has written it off and probably won't bother. He paid $50.00 for it on NZ's Trademe (like EBay) and it was sealed in a new wrapper. It's probably been abused in transit. Thanks for your help. Neil.
