Lately I have been getting a message:

"Installing Update 1 of 1" (I have not recently installed an update

    THEN
"Do not turn off your computer. It will shut down automatically "

    (it does)

Do you have Windows Update set to automatically download updates? - check out the Security Centre in Control Panel.

On the other hand .... could be a nasty I guess.

that is the way auto updates works these days. u should see the gold shield in the system tray if an update is dloaded and pending install. u can install it from there and the shutdown install should go away.

i'd note that lots of people seem to have updates that never go away these days too. eg- the update installs but at next boot, it comes back.

in any event, i'd check the updates manually and see if the same one is returning. if so, ID it here by naming the KB article number
