New Program Notification

Hi,

This might seem like a small and petty request when all of you are busy helping people with some tough problems but..........only if you have the time................

Does anyone here know how to disable XP Pro's buggy "new programs installed" balloon tip along with the highlights on the new programs in the programs list?

I know when I have installed a new program. I don't really want XP telling me I did. It's a small thing but this is where all the knowledge is, without a doubt, so I thought I'd ask.

Does anyone know?

Also, this might work (have not tried it). I know it unhighlights new programs but don't know about the balloons. Right click the start button, choose properties. Click customize on the start menu tab. Click the advanced tab. Second box down controls the new program highlitghting.

I cannot thank you enough. Just got back to my PC and checked out what's up with my thread.

Sometimes it just baffles me how much I don't know just when I think I know everything.

I'm not woried about the balloons anymore at all. Never mind the highlight trick.......I, for the first time, saw all kinds of neat stuff in there for the tweakin'!

To disable Balloon Tips;

Open Regedit

Navigate to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ Advanced

Create a new DWORD value EnableBalloonTips. give it a value of 0 (zero) and you will have disabled balloon tips.
