While looking through my add/remove programs list I ran across something called New.net Domains 6.38.

I have no idea what it is and where I got it. I'm concerned it might be spyware or something that I downloaded piggy backed with another software package.

Can anybody help. Is it worthwhile keeping? Is it dangerous? If it good how do I use it as I cant find it in my programs directory?

You definately don't want it. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall New.net if there. If not there, use procedure #4 from here to remove it.

    Reboot.

Shouldn't be a problem, but download LSPFix just in case you lose internet connectivty after uninstalling. Run it only if needed.

Dave, What is it? I run spybot S&D, Adaware, McAfee, and Clean cache and nothing seems to detect it. Do you know what it does?

Do you keep your spyware detectors' reference files up to date? I am pretty sure AdAware and SpybotS&D detect this, but maybe not.

Spybot is now set by default to ignore New.net, and I'm unsure about Ad-aware's stance on it. They both used to remove it, but often times internet access was broken by doing so, usually due to out of date reference files on the user's part. The problem was due to removing the LSP and not properly repairing the winsock chain.

All my files are up to date and I think Adaware finally caught it. It's gone now. Thanks.

Now does anybody know what "Sonic Update Manager" in my Add/Remove list is? Should that be deleted also. I don't remember ever installing it.

There is an app by that name that installs with the Sony DVD drive. I think it is part of an app called Record Now.

The file that runs is sgtray.exe.

I can't find any solid information that tags it as malware but you should be able to get rid of it if you want to.
