We bought a new internal modem online,Mechanically it is installed properly, but it will not work.
I first tried to load in using Add New Hardware Wizard , i get the message "Windows did not find any new modems attached to your computer" to select your modem from a list click next "
I click next, but Mitsumi is not on the list. If i click have disk(which i do)in then insert disk, but here is where it gets worse. it states copy Manufacturers files from Instructions state specify the location of the modem driver,e.g.
    D:\Modem model number\Win95/98/200/ME. click next(actually o.k. is the choice)
it read Disk as D:\ MITSUMI CDROMFX54++w|Win95/98/200/ME. then i get message "the specified location does not contain information about your hardware "
I have used M09 which is on disk, deleted words CDROM, tried Mitsumi FX%$ etc. and other variations
    Desperately seeking help
    MIR

Is your modem listed in Device Manager without any errors?
You may also need to update its driver.

One thing you need to do is uninstall any previous modems. Look in Add/Remove Programs and also in Phone and Modem Options for any listings of old modems and remove them. There is a communication (diagnostics) test in Phone and Modem Options.

Internal modems use COM port 3 or 4. Check the COM port listing in Phone and Modem Options.

Hmmm...it's just a generic name, but it indicates, that Windows does see some modem.
    Let's try something else.
I assume, you physically removed your old modem, right?
What does your disk say about modem's model?
Install Everest, and see what it says about your modem.
Remove your modem, look closely. It should have FCC# printed on it somewhere. What is that #?

    NEW MODEM that doesn't work

    To Broni
    yes physically removed old modem.
I was searching "modems" yeterday evening and found 2 sites; www.Modemsite.com and www.restartoffice.com, read them both, lookeds at old modem to try to identify it, but NO FCC I.D NUMBER, so this morning i removed NEW modem to look for FCC Id, but again no fcc id label .ther is a number etched in chipboard 0713, but that does not jibe with anything on either site
    .
I Can't install Everest on that 'puter as it won't go online because modem not working.
I looked at it here(XP "puter), clicked on drivers listed , but Mitsumi not listed, nor is Genius which was old modem

Are you sure, you have a right disk?
When I search for "MITSUMI FX54++w ", it indicates, it's CD ROM drive, by Mitsumi.

Hi Broni, it sounds like a multiple drivers disk that can be included with different types of Mitsumi hardware.

I would look on the drivers disk for a set of installation instructions, probably under D:\ModemMitsumi or D:\ModemMitsumi\Win98. The file may be a .txt or .doc or even a .pdf and maybe called Readme or Read.1st.

Getting the right drivers installed will be the first factor. If you think the right drivers are installed, check that COM port listing. Don't try connecting to the internet before the COM port switches to COM 3 or 4 and you need to reboot Windows before it will change ports.

Other places you may find the model listed is the website where you ordered the modem. Did it come in a box? Look on the box.

I guess we will have to go back to person online it was bought from and ask him if he knows.
An interesting sidelight::: I found modems online from MWave.com for $7.98 & $8.64 shipping or Thenerds.com for $13.00 plus shipping OR a Dynex from BestBuy for $40.00.or Zoom $42.98....
My wife said $16.00(with shipping) too much, she got this one for less than $7.98,with USPS first class mail, BUT we have spent $50.-$100. worth of time trying to make it work........and it still doesn't
