    The saga continues...
Yesterday I bought a couple of DIMM's to boost memory up to 128MB. The setup utility shows 128MB in extended memory but Windows will only boot to safe mode. I get the following error message:
    Windows XMS Driver version 3.95
ERROR: HIMEM.SYS has detected unreliable XMS memory at address 03F0006.
I don't know how to get HIMEM to recognize the new memory. Maybe it's an out of date HIMEM? Maybe something else. I'm at a friend's system, doing this message. His email is: cpndp@aol.xom.
    Would appreciate any help.
    Thanks
    Mike

You don't give us any of the particulars about your machine, your old memory or your new memory so I will take a few shots in the dark.

    Possibilities to explore:
    • The new memory is the wrong speed.
    • The new memory is incompatible with the old memory.
    • The new memory is actually defective.
    • The new memory is the wrong voltage for your board.
    • The new memory is the wrong type for your board. Some boards support only two-sided memory, some only single-sided, and some both. Some boards have restrictions on the quantity of chips on each stick. Check the main board manual.
