The New Mail Advisory, (Mozilla V1.6) to which I've attached an audio "You Got Mail" seems only to advise when mail goes into my JUNK folder, but NOT my In-box or any other folder.

This is most annoying as I couldn't care less about trash coming in (3 to 1 over mail I want).

How can I make the advisory tell me when In-Box mail arrives?

I understand your annoyances, and, this has happened to me so rarely, that is not annoying. Besides, I got over the idea of using the audio alert. I am not so desperate to find out about new e-mails that I allow this to be disrupting.
Don't take it wrong, it is a practical suggestion. I can't see anything in the Junk controls which can help you.

    jgb,

I've looked in several of the Mail jar files, about:config, etc., and don't see anything which can be edited. However, I did ask your question on the secnews.netscape.com, netscape.mozilla.user.win32 Newsgroup. I have no programming expertise, so somewhat inept in this area...

Chris Ilias, a Mozilla Champion, is quite talented in this area, and he usually gives me a reply. If I find out anything I will post it here. In the meantime, you might follow, or add to the thread: snews://secnews.netscape.com:563/cujd81$kqm7@ripley.netscape.com

    Jim,

I too, have found that you can't get to the NG post in Firefox, by either pasting or clicking on the live link! Clicking on the link, or pasting it in the Location Bar field, however, works just fine in Mozilla or Netscape.

Here is an updated link with an informative reply:

For your benefit, and others who cannot access the link, here is the reply:

    As usual.....

As usual, I always seem to find the tough ones. Or the obscure ones. Thanks for trying.

BTW, is there anywhere I can post some beefs (in a nice way) about some inconsistancies in Mozilla? These are the type that would be most likely addressed at some (near??) future version update. I assume Mozilla will live on despite the success of Firefox & Thunderbird.

Hi! I had sent this, but was not answered yet. I think that it covers your gripe.

"I do not use the new mail audio announcement, because it is pointless. and even the visible one is. The biggest problem is that one receives accouncements of Junk as well as good mail. and, you know that Junk mail predominates, something like 10 Junk to 1 good e-mail.
Is there anything that can be done to discriminate between types of mail? It surely be nice.
Could you pass this on to anyone interested? Or, perhaps is it impossible? "

I sent this to a generic contact at mozilla.org. I will be happy to let you know one way or other.
My impression is that it may not be possible, because the selection is the last things happening before the mail is delivered.
I, actually, am doing better than explained above, because I get server side screening from my ISP. And, besides, I detest to be interrupted even if it is Bugs Bunny!

Yes, I know the announcement is after the Junk and spam filters. I use them to great success, only about 1 in 10 junk/spams actually remain in my in-box, and rarely does a valid email get junked. So I suspect the announcement is made if anything enters the in-box, before it gets filtered, but is delayed till the filtering is done.

It needs to be made only if new mail remains in the in-box after filtering, BUT, then I filter specific mail to other boxes (not junk) based on sender as well, so that complicates stuff. Perhaps the announcement logic needs to be an "OR" set on folder name, with the option when the folder is defined.

My ISP uses Yahoo bulk filtering which I had to turn off, because I could not control it to my liking, and way too much good mail got junked as a result. Unless I was willing to use Yahoo mail exclusively, and not bring anything down to Mozilla, which I refuse to do.

I remember about Yahoo mail, which I gave up. But, my ISP allows me to set up their Spam for individual accounts. In fact, only one out of four accounts has any spam, and, it handled over 95% of the spam correctly, and no good mail lost. But, I do get a few strays, and, I do get a visible announcement even if the e-mail goes to the Junk folder. In fact, the only message on that account, this morning was in the Junk folder. But, I turn off the audio, mainly, because I listen to music, all the time.
