In MS Word 2000 (Vista Home Basic), I am typing and then a new line forms,
which starts at the top of a new page that had just been automatically
formed. I have noticed several times, that Word will not adjust my view, to
make the new line somewhere around the middle of my display, but will keep
Word (and the cursor) right where it was, down at the bottom of my display.
This is so bad that often, I can only see the top half of the new line that
has been created, forcing me to use the scroll bars along the right side of
the page. Is there any way I can change this?

Here is a screenshot of what I'm talking about.

This one happened after I hit enter.

On a Word forum, I was told that this was a monitor/hardware error—that there is no option in Word that will adjust this. I have not noticed this using Open Office off and on, on this laptop for a few months, so I really don’t know.

Mods, if this isn't a hardware problem, then feel free to move it where you feel it would be most appropriate.

    Any suggestions?

Is your install of Office 2000 fully updated? - according to here you need SP3.

I don't see this as a hardware problem - maybe a repair of Office would help - Help > Detect & Repair.

Thanks for the heads up--sp3 was downloaded but not yet installed. Got that taken care of.

Well I tried to reduplicate this problem after the update and I couldn't, which doesn't necessarily mean anything, but of course if it goes away I'll report back so that the solution stays in the archives here.

OK well some 4 days after the installation of SP3, I haven't noticed this problem and believe me I've had plenty of use of MS Word in that time. Looks like this was taken care of. I'll see if I can get the thread title edited to say "solved ".

    Thanks again, Pete.
