Hi folks . A while back I was posting here seeking advice on which laptop to purchase . I bought an Acer Aspire 5610 and haven't had any real problems with it . Last week we had quite an electrical storm and our cable modem got nailed so I got a new one (motorola) and had it configured through our provider . My home computer was connecting to the web but the router seemed to be out of service too so I decided to move up to a wireless (linksys) . I used the install CD and followed their instructions and everything seemed to be Ok until I encrypted the wireless . I got into the laptop manage wireless network page but am not experienced enough to solve the issues so I called Linksys. They turned out to have excellent support and I recommend them if you're looking for a router . Anyway we got the problems solved and I was able to get online .

Here's where the problem is coming in - everytime I shut the laptop down it selects some default wireless router in my area and I have to go back into the Network and Sharing center and reconfigure which network the computer is defaulting to . Also , the setting are being changed within the adapter properties ( the IPv4 settings) . In the network named default by the computer they keep being reset to a manual IP address . When I reset them to automatic and then move my network up to the top . The computer logs on to the web. So (sorry this was so long !) I hope that my question is obvious by now ! HOw do I get my laptop to stop changing these settings around?!!

From the Networking and Sharing Center, select Manage wireless networks. Find the name of your network, right-click & select Properties. Make sure there's a check-mark in Connect automatically when this network is in range.

Thanks for the input ! I "ve already done this . What I'm finding is that the password is being reset everytime I shut the computer down . Then I'll have to go in and remove some default network and when I go back to recheck my settings , the password has been changed back to one that the router software designated when I was setting it up ! This thing just keeps running me in circles and nothing I do stays put . Sometimes when I restart I'll go back into the ipv4 and check the properties of my network and they will be set to manual with some IP address, although the wireless network page says it is set to connect automatically .! I guess it's time to call Microsoft - or should I call Acer ? Thanks again !
