Hello, just upgraded to Xp from ME .. my Intellimouse Explorer has lost all of its handy features since the install. running the mouse properties prog in cntrl pnl brings up the plain jane mouse mod menu, no advanced buttons etc..

Ive tried reinstalling Intellipoint 4.01 to no avail, still cant access the right mod menu. device manager tells me i have a ps2 mouse installed (makes sense, im in ps2 port) but wont let me choose another mouse..

I tried the mouse in the USB port, it recognized that it was an Explorer mouse, but gave me no added functionality and movement was shot to heck, jumping all over the place and all..

worked 100% fine in either USB port or PS2 port in ME... ideas please?

    thnx

I cannot get to the Microsoft download site right now to see what the most current driver version is. I just put XP Home on my wifes PC and she has an IntelliMouse Explorer Optical mouse that works fine. I went to the download site and dowloaded the new XP driver to use though, but I do not remember the version. If that is what you are using I have no clue as to what the problem might be.

Had the same thing happen to me when I went from WinMe to WinXP. My Microsoft Trackball Optical went from 5 buttons to 2.

This article from the Microsoft Knowledge Base gave me the clue.
The entry for point32.exe had mysteriously disappeared from the Run menu in the registry.

I have USB Intellimouse 1.0A and Driver 4.01 and all buttons work. I 've not upgraded to Xp, but installed new driver. In my device Manager it shows:
    1)Human Interface Devices:
    Microsoft USB Intellimouse Explorer
    and in
2)MICE AND OTHER POINTING DEVICES it shows both Microsoft PS2 and USB devices. (Does your Device Manager show any yellow question marks?)
-You say you can "plug into either and it worked on ME." I have on the end of my mouse ONLY a USB connection. Maybe this is something new to be able to plug into either? Is it an adaptor for the mouse? Maybe the adaptor doesn't work?

-Not sure you'd want to try this, but if you haven't, what about: unplugging mouse; UNINSTALL PS2 mouse from device manager; install 4.01 software before plugging in mouse;Turn off computer; Plug in mouse into USB port; turn on computer and see if it finds mouse, and joins driver to it and makes mouse buttons work.
-What are the tabs at top of Control Panel now for Mouse? On the BUTTONS tab does it even have options for Right/Left/Roll/Lg thumb/Sm thumb? If it has NO options for all of this, then maybe the software didn't install correctly?
-I know I "m just 'intermediate" and you are "advanced" in knowledge, but hope something helps? Also for someone who knows the difference in what it means in Device Manager re #1) and #2) above..I wonder, as in my #1) "Human Interface Devices" above, rt click/properties ..the DRIVER for USB shows vs.5.1.2600.0 ....whereas the DRIVER for #2) Mice,etc/prop's shows vs. 4.0.0.657
Maybe somehow I have something here that makes this work which you don't? I'm using XP HOME edit.
Anymore questions can email me (not that I'd know answer):
