When you click on a link, it will either open the page in the same window or in a new window depending on what the page designer has decided. You can of course use shift+click to override to a new window.

Now I've noticed that you can set google to open its links in a new window, but the behaviour is slightly different - it uses the same window each time, and after the first time it doesn't shift focus to the new window.

My question is this: Is it possible to do this on demand but opening a new window each time?

Say I want to open twenty topics in WindowsBBS then shut down my connection to save money and read them at my leisure. At the moment I can do so, but I have to switch back to the "host" page each time because the focus shifts to the page just opening.

I'm not sure this is what you are looking for, but Tweakui has a setting to prevent applications from stealing focus.

Thanks for that, but I already use that feature of TweakUI.

I suppose it's not so much that focus is stolen as it is given to the new window.

Sorry about the delay in getting back to you.

As luck would have it, I found a solution to this problem after all.

There's a program called 'HeldUp' that runs from the system tray, and when you want a window to 'stick' you drag the icon to the open window.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that it worked even with one of several windows of the same program - in this case IE.

So I can have a page full of links stay open as I click the links one by one, and the windows will open underneath the one I'm working on. Then I just release the 'hold' (or minimize that window) and carry on surfing.

Would have preferred freeware, but you can't have everything.

    Cheers

    John
